Summit on Healthy Lands and Energy Development

The goal of the Summit was to explore ideas for reducing the negative impacts of all forms of energy development on the land through collaborative, voluntary projects that engage private landowners, community leaders and energy companies.

The event showcased successful land conservation projects that have been carried out by a number of energy companies and will focus on the importance of replicating good ideas and engaging in dialog with various stakeholders to reduce conflicts about energy development.

Featured speakers David Yeates of the Texas Wildlife Association, Chris West of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and Dr. Chase Currie of San Pedro Ranch discussed ways landowners and energy companies can work together to find solutions when conflicts arise. They also presented examples of partnerships that have resulted in positive outcomes for landowners, habitats and wildlife.

Saving Working Lands Workshop

The wide open spaces we associate with the Big Bend region exist because of the stewardship of families who have owned those ranches for generations. These families have kept these ranches going against all odds – drought, estate taxes and children moving away to the city.

More than 140 people attended this workshop to learn what landowners can do when energy development comes to their communities.
